Born in Drohobych on 27 November 1932. His father was a building engineer. By 1945 Zdzisław Baran attended a Polish primary school in Drohobych, after the war he learnt at a Ukrainian school. He worked as a salesman, then as a master at a radio workshop. In 1954, he was called up into the army. He did his military service in Stalingrad, where he learnt how to operate a tank. In 1957, he returned to Drohobych and took up his previous job. He worked as a guild master by 1998. He lives in Drohobych.
